The May of 1687 illustrates the theme of Saint Paul's trust and faith. Faced with Agabus, the disciple of Jesus, who predicted his death, he replied "I am ready". The picture is painted by Louis Chéron. He was a Parisian painter, twice honored with the Prix de Rome in painting. In Rome, he studied Italian mannerism under the masters. The mannerism is expressed through the acidic and dark colors to the right of the composition. He was 27 when he finished this May. It originally hung in The Chapel of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
