Completion of technical installations and fire protection – Final tests

The works on the technical networks of the Cathedral is coming to an end. Now it’s time for the tests, first individual tests for each piece of equipment, then global and coordinated tests, especially for the fire protection and the fogging system in the roof structures, which will be operational when the cathedral reopens. In this context, as in any major project, an inspection body, in this case the Apave Group, checks that all electrical standards are met. As with the opening of any public establishment (ERP), this process will culminate in a meeting of a safety commission under the supervision of the Prefecture of Police, scheduled for the second half of November. This work has been prepared for several years in close collaboration with teams from the Préfecture de Police, security architects and firefighters, so that we can take the concerns of these experts into account as much as possible and guarantee the highest level of safety for the public and the monument. In this way, the restoration of the Cathedral has been able to combine the most ancient and respectful techniques, mastered by today’s artisans and craftsmen, with the most innovative technologies of the 21st century, mastered by engineers and technicians, in order to guarantee its safety.

At the same time, teams from Schneider Electric and Eiffage are installing the building management system (BMS) for the Cathedral’s operational phase, which is about to begin. This system will monitor and optimize the operation of the cathedral’s electrical installations. It integrates various networks, such as heating and lighting, to optimize and improve energy efficiency. These are currently being interconnected so that this tool can be used in the near future.

Finally, under the responsibility of the Diocese of Paris, the technical installations to welcome the public to the Cathedral and to ensure the smooth running of the services are also underway. Lighting, microphones, loudspeakers, sound systems of all kinds, recording equipment, etc. are currently being installed or tested in preparation for the coming weeks.
